Bats are great insect eaters.
Unfortunately, what goes in must also come out ... usually down the side of the wall, or in your ceiling.
Recent legislation in South Africa has made it illegal to kill bats.
It is ,however, permissible to chase them away.
One method is to irritate them with sound at levels far above the human range of hearing. The human ear can hear sounds up to approximately Hz, and a dog's hearing can extend to Hz. The Bat-Away produces noise at levels that are inaudible to people and even dogs.
Many others have tried this, with little success. Their failiure is mainly due to a lack of understanding of the way the brain works. Their units produce a loud consistant noise, which the bats don't like. However, the brain has the ability to lock out certain contstant and irritating noises. Examples of this are city dwellers who are able to sleep through the racket of the street noises and sirens common to city life. When asked how they manage this, they will simply shrug and say that they are used to it. Their brains have adapted to the noise and simply 'tuned it out'.
The Bat-Away has overcome this problem by incorperating features which allow it to produce random bursts of noise at random frequencies, at random intervals, for random periods of time. Owing to the unpredictablility of these bursts, durations and intervals, the bats' brains battle to 'lock on' to the noise. Thus the bat does not get used to the sound and chooses rather to find somewhere else to live.
Which is exactly what you want it to do.
